Dear Readers,

In the post 9/11 world and in the wake of the debacles at Enron, Tyco, WorldCom and others, we face a crisis of confidence in leadership. All of us who are committed to a healthy free enterprise system are working to build high-integrity, winning organizations.

In this context, I am happy to announce the publication of my latest book, THE CYCLE OF LEADERSHIP. It provides the keys to creating companies with strong values, speed and the intelligence to sustain success, decade after decade. Namely, it tells how you can build a world class "teaching" organization; one that develops leaders at all levels who, in turn, develop other leaders. This creates knowledge while simultaneously aligning your leaders around a set of shared business ideas and values.

In my previous book, THE LEADERSHIP ENGINE, I argued that leaders at all levels must have a "teachable point of view" so they can develop other leaders. I still firmly believe this, but I now add a critical dimension to the execution: Leaders must teach in an interactive, high-energy way that enables them to learn while they teach. The core DNA of a teaching organization is constant, two-way learning, or what I call "virtuous teaching cycles."

I hope you find the book both challenging and useful.

Sincerely yours,
Noel

"Tichy’s contribution to developing leaders is Olympian. This book gets the gold.”

Warren Bennis, distinguished professor of Business, USC, and coauthor of Geeks and Geezers.

In The Leadership Engine, management guru Noel Tichy showed how great companies strive to identify and develop their leaders. Now, in The Cycle of Leadership, he shows how effective leaders interact across company boundaries and disciplines in order to turn their businesses into teaching organizations -- where leaders continually communicate their ideas, strategy, vision, and goals to others and in turn, learn from those they teach.

Why do some companies consistently win in the marketplace while others struggle from crisis to crisis?
The answer, says Noel Tichy, is that winning companies possess a "Leadership Engine" -- a proven system for creating dynamic leaders at every level.
